Matt Bowling Heads to East Carolina Motor Speedway as National Points Battle Heats Up
By: Justin Kern
Robersonville, NC – NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National points leader Matt Bowling pulled into East Carolina Motor Speedway this weekend as the National point’s battle heats up. With just a one-point lead going into this weekend, Bowling is looking to capitalize on the increased car counts and twin features in the Late Model division that East Carolina Motor Speedway has been boasting this year.
With twelve starts over four different tracks; Bowling enters the weekend with 358 points, just one point over Chase Purdy who is actually scheduled to run the CARS Tour event at Tri-County Motor Speedway and Greenville Pickens Speedway point’s leader. Purdy and Keith Rocco, who finished 12th in Stafford Motor Speedway’s 45- lap SK Modified feature Friday night, enter the weekend tied for second in the national standings.
“Perhaps counting points in June is too soon,” Bowling told Speed51.com powered by JEGS this past week. “We have had a good start, but we need full field wins and we can get that here at South Boston. We did some traveling a few weeks back to chase points, but the weather hurt us this week.”
“It’s a testament to how much East Carolina Motor Speedway has grown over the past three years.” Promoter John Vick told us this morning. “To have the talent that Matt Bowling possesses here at our track is great. We are going to stick with running twin features for the Late Model Division throughout the year specially with so many drivers in the top ten in points looking to race at our facility.”
